Wild fur prices advance in Toronto
THE UPTREND IN SKIN PRICES CONTINUED LAST WEEK IN TORONTO, where North American Fur Auctions conducted its big sale of mink and wild furs. With over 400 buyers in attendance, the competition was keen and the price increases were significant in both cases. In the case of dark and mahogany males, prices were firm to the high levels in Seattle. Hong Kong/China was the dominant buyer with good support from Greece, Korea and Russia.
In the wild fur catalog, muskrats sold at historically high prices. That reflected not only the soaring mink prices, but China’s “discovery” of muskrats and its total domination of that item. Prices of the ‘rats more than doubled last year’s averages. Big increases also were reported for wild mink, up 80% over last year; otters up 75%, lynx cats up 60% and beavers and raccoons advancing.
