Teresa Platt Joins Fur Commission USA As Executive Director
March 30, 1998, Coronado, CA
Teresa Platt has joined Fur Commission USA, which represents over 600 U.S.-based fur farmers, as their new Executive Director. Teresa Platt grew up in the San Joaquin Valley of California, the daughter of an agricultural banker. She was involved with the tuna industry for twenty years and is active in the debate over preservation and animal rights versus conservation and animal welfare. Teresa, a co-founder of the Coronado, California-based Fishermen’s Coalition, is known for her involvement in educating the public about the tuna/dolphin association in the eastern tropical Pacific. In 1997, the tuna fleet passed changes to the Marine Mammal Protection Act which will ultimately strengthen the current “dolphin safe” definition while expanding U.S. fishing opportunities.
“Teresa brings to the Fur Commission a keen understanding of animal welfare and our continuing dependence on the responsible use of animals and the environment for our survival and quality of life,” said Tom Mohoric, President of Fur Commission USA. “We look forward to having her represent the fur farmers in a variety of forums.”
Teresa serves on the board of National Animal Interest Alliance and as secretary of the Alliance for America, groups dedicated to restoring people and common sense to the environmental equation.
Teresa firmly believes that in order to secure the right to consumptive use of the Earth’s bounty, all resource caretakers must join hands and solve the real environmental issues before them while educating the general public about responsible animal and resource management and use.
“I am very excited about joining Fur Commission, USA and representing the producers of such an elegant product,” stated Teresa. “With so many clothing choices, fur makes wonderful sense in terms of style, durability, beauty and low impact on the environment.”
