Mink Pelt Prices Up at Finnish Opener
MINK PRICES WERE FIRM TO SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN RECENT LEVELS at last week’s opening sale of the season at Finnish Fur Sales. Although the offering attracted fewer than usual Chinese buyers because of that country’s current investigation into possible tax evasion, those who came bought well and there was strong demand from Turkish and Russian interests. The company reported over 400 international buyers in attendance.
The relatively small mink offering was almost all sold, mainly to Hong Kong/China, but also to Russian interests. Karakuls also drew strong interest, as did Russian farmed sables, finnraccoons and foxes. According to the official report in the mink catalog, the 37,000 black males were 88% sold at an average of $59.50 and a top of $75, while the 44,000 females sold 99% at $34.72/$45; 46,000 brown males 100% at $49.01/$61 and 49,000 females 100% at $30.98/$39; 110,000 glow males 100% at $63.13/$81.59 and 115,000 females 100% at $39.68/$51.32.
