Russian, Korean buyers return “in numbers” at Copenhagen auction
ACCORDING TO KOPENHAGEN FUR’S FINAL REPORT OF ITS JUNE SALE, although Hong Kong/China again dominated, both Russia and South Korea returned “in numbers not seen in a couple of years.” Korea, which for many years set the market for short-napped black females, has broadened its tastes to include other types. “They still prefer females, but they do not necessarily have to be short-haired and the color no longer needs to be black.” The common denominator, said the company, is high quality. Meanwhile, Korea’s absence in recent years because of economic problems left the stage to the Chinese, whose interests were spread equally between American and Danish short-napped goods.
That Russia is recuperating from its financial crisis and again taking an important role at the auctions was also noted. “We got the first sign that the Russian bear was coming out of his hibernation earlier this year, when Greek customers who have been relying on the Russian market started trading again.”
