Russian fur market seen brightening
THAT THE RUSSIAN MARKET HAS BEEN RECOVERING from the financial crisis that circled the world two years ago already was evident by its return to the auctions. Last week’s MEXA in Moscow provided further evidence in the form of a bigger and better attended fair than last year’s.
The three-day event at the Expocenter Fairgrounds fielded some 90 exhibitors – about 20 more than last year – and the atmosphere was described as showing more spark. There was said to be good activity in the skin sector, indicating low stocks.
A highlight again this year was the “Stars of the Kremlin – FUR” competition for young designers sponsored jointly by Kopenhagen Fur and Public Moscow University, the winners to be awarded workshop training at Kopenhagen’s studio and by Centropel in Greece. Skins for the competition were donated by Russian dealer Mexovoye Buro.
