Quick consumption of world mink crop expected
THE EXPECTATION IS THAT THE SIZE OF THIS YEAR’S WORLD MINK CROP will not be much larger than last year’s – which apparently will be completely consumed. Thanks to China’s enormous appetite and the revival of the Russian and Korean markets following their economic problems, those three markets alone would assure quick disposal of this year’s crop at next year’s auctions and private sales.
If the strong demand from these markets continues – barring another world economic meltdown – the current price structure for mink is viewed as remaining at least firm. But, considering the continuing expansion of the Chinese domestic market and the economic recoveries in Russia and South Korea – even if the U.S. and other traditional markets remain stagnant – market veterans would not rule out further increases in the mink price structure and – as has usually been the case – most other furs as well.
