Prison Inmate Is Latest Animal Lib Press Officer
Introducing Walter Bond, “serial arsonist”
In a move that speaks volumes about the organization, the North American Animal Liberation Press Office (NAALPO) has named Walter Bond as its latest National Press Officer.
It’s hard not to be distracted by Bond’s unorthodox tattoos, and ask, “Is this the face one wants for a public spokesman?” But that’s not the story.
The story is that Bond, in his own words, is a “serial arsonist” who is totally unrepentant and will be spending the next five years in prison.
The new face of NAALPO has been convicted of burning down a sheepskin plant in Colorado last April, and ordered to pay $1.17 million in restitution to the plant’s owners and other parties affected.
He also faces federal charges relating to fires at a leather store in Salt Lake City and a restaurant in Sandy, Utah.
At his sentencing this Feb. 11, he showed no remorse for destroying the Sheepskin Factory and the livelihood of its owner.
In a statement to the court and owner Louis Livaditis, he said, “In a society that values money over life, I consider it an honor to be a prisoner of war, the war against inter-species slavery and objectification! I also want you to know that I will never willingly pay you one dollar, not one! I hope your business fails and you choke to death on every penny you profit from animal murder! I hope you choke on it and burn in hell!”
Yet in spite of this - or because of it? - NAALPO thinks he’s the cat’s pajamas!
In announcing Bond’s appointment, it described him as “a prisoner of war, … an essayist, writer, philosopher and motivating force” for animal and earth liberation. It was also quick to point out, however, that due to his “current incarceration he is limited by prison regulations including how he associates with the North American Animal Liberation Press Office.”
Bond joins a distinguished roster of NAALPO press officers that includes Jerry Vlasak (“I don’t think you’d have to kill – assassinate – too many vivisectors before you would see a marked decrease in the amount of vivisection going on”) and Gary Yourofsky (“Deep down, I truly hope that oppression, torture and murder return to each uncaring human tenfold!”).
