President’s Message from Gincy Beck
FCUSA PRESS RELEASE, SEPTEMBER 19, 1999
President’s Message from Gincy Beck
AT THIS SEPTEMBER’s annual meeting of Fur Commission USA, I was honored to be elected President. At a time like that, one doesn’t always think of everything that needs to be said, and sure enough, starting at about 3 o’clock the next morning, a wave of embarrassment came over me. How much had I omitted from the “thank you department”? Plenty! So please allow me this opportunity to correct my faux pas.
It has been so enjoyable to serve on FCUSA’s Board for the last few years, and as a result, work with some really dedicated members of our industry. We cover, with our committees, Research, Animal Welfare, and Government Affairs. Each committee is served by elected members and volunteer committee people. FCUSA also participates in Fur America, an umbrella organization which coordinates projects with all segments of the fur industry. At each of these levels, lots of time is spent in phone calls, conference calls, and meetings trying to handle these areas of concern in our industry. And much time is spent passing on experience, hear-say, and opinion that helps our organization function.
It is for all those hours on conference calls, passing on “experience, hear-say and opinion”, that I’d like to extend a big thank you to the people who have served on our Board and are now leaving their positions to move on to other works.
Last but by no means least, I must take this opportunity to thank outgoing FCUSA President Tom Gibson. We’re fortunate that he will still be on the Board, sharing his ideas and suggestions. I’ve always appreciated my years of friendship with Tom, and his availability to discuss FCUSA and industry business. Big shoes to fill, Tom!
Thank you all, once again, for electing me to the position of FCUSA President, and I look forward to the challenge.
Gincy Beck
