American Legend auction ends very strong; prices outstanding

The American Legend auction concluded today on a very strong note with outstanding prices on the Blackglama and American Legend Mahogany females.

Strong participation from both the Korean and Hong Kong/China markets pushed Blackglama and American Legend Mahogany averages 60% higher than averages achieved one year ago and 6% higher than February of 2008. Blackglama 1 size averaged $68.51, 2 size averaged $63.33, and 3 size averaged $53.63.

In the labeled goods, American Legend Mahogany 0 size averaged $65.82, 1 size averaged $60.78, 2 size averaged $52.40, and 3 size averaged $43.38.

The attention of the fur world will now be focused on the Hong Kong Fur Fair and the Mifur in Milan, Italy, as the new price structure on pelts is incorporated into wholesale garment prices for the upcoming season.

Top Lots

The The top lot of Blackglama females was purchased by Mechutan Fur Corp. for Tsoukas Bros. & Sons, Kastoria, Greece, and was produced by Buhl-Frye of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

The top lot of American Legend Mahogany females was purchased by Sorbara Furs Inc. for Nieman Marcus, New York, New York, and was produced by Ball Bros. of Malad City, Idaho.

American Legend would personally like to thank all of the buyers who participated and contributed to the success of this auction. It was a record breaking sale for American Legend and its members, made possible by the tremendous support of the international trade.

International mink put up impressive numbers, as male types exceeded 2008's record price levels by nearly 10%, while female types achieved an astounding 25% price increase over 2008. The buying contingency bid heavily across all collections, with Velvet and better quality skins earning heavy premiums.
