The Farm Bureau has sent a letter to Representative James Sensenbrenner, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, urging support of H.R. 4239, which was authored by Representative Tom Petri. The bill would give federal authorities the ability to arrest and prosecute animal terrorists that use intimidation, threats, or disruption of markets, in addition to enforcement of actual damage to property.

Wisconsin is the largest veal and mink producing state in the country, these farmers are a constant target of the animal rights community. The Farm Bureau said this legislation is needed to provide additional assurance to family farmers of the safety of their families and their livelihoods.

The Farm Bureau said this legislation would give law enforcement expanded legal options to catch and prosecute those who threaten the lives of farmers and ranchers and the animals they raise, and not wait for actual damage to take place.
