INTERNATIONAL FUR TRADE FEDERATION PRESS RELEASE, MARCH 18, 2005

Japan Wins International Fur Design Competition
International Fur Trade Federation Announces Winners in Milan

Japanese designer / design student, Atsuko Yamamoto was crowned 2005 International Young Fur Designer last night in Milan.

Her winning entry, a fox, coyote and lamb menswear coat, won the approval of an international jury of fashion designers, journalists, and members of the fur trade.

As part of her prize, gold winner 21-year-old Atsuko will now spend a week with Staff International, the fashion design and manufacturer. With a company philosophy of supporting fresh emerging design talent, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, will work with Atsuko over a week's placement at their north Italian headquarters.

The annual competition, organised by the International Fur Trade Federation in association with MIFUR, attracted entries from 44 designers representing 21 countries. The final was held at East End studios in Milan on Thursday evening. Greek designer Eliana Dimitrakopoulou received the silver award for her design, a mink jewelled cape representing two evolving flowers and the bronze award for Sally Bohan from the UK for her rex rabbit sapphire blue and black-engineered panel hooded jacket with silk thread embroidered hood.

Guests were entertained by a series of multi-media presentations reflecting iconic fashion periods such as the swinging 60s in London and the fashion creativity of different cultures which were the backdrop for living tableaux illustrating how the entries reflected the cultures of many countries. All 44 entries were on display.

IFTF PR Committee Chairman, and jury member Robert Liska, said: "It is extremely encouraging for both the fur trade and the fashion industry, to see so many young talented designers using fur in their collections.

We continue to be excited by the enthusiam and talent of the people who entered our competition. Each year the designers bring a fresh approach to working with fur . We hope that the competition will go from strength to strength and become a regular fixture in the international fur calendar".
