Record Attendance at IFTF Council Meeting

Sixty five international delegates, representing 27 countries attended the International Fur Trade Federation Council and 55th Annual General Meeting in Copenhagen on Thursday 2 September making it the best attended Council meeting since the federation was formed in 1949.

The increased attendance was reflected in the full programme.

Dr. Robert Liska, PR Committee Chairman, reported on the success of the "Fur Ever" promotion which just appeared in 10 international editions of Vogue and China Cosmopolitan. He also covered the IFTF's other PR activities and future plans for 2004/05.

Other presentations were made on the independent consumer research commissioned by the IFTF and the recently announced second IFTF International Young Designer Competition.

The packed agenda, also included news on the recent European Parliamentary election, an update on the work of the Fur wRaps the Hill initiative in the USA, the appointment of the new European Commissioners, and efforts on the work of the Ethics and EFBA/IFTF Joint Committees.

Delegates were informed about the latest progress made with the SIAM method of Fur Identification and the IFTF European Labelling scheme. Representatives from Russia, the Ukraine, Canada, Slovakia, and the National Trappers Association in the USA also addressed the meeting.

Andy Lenhart, IFTF chairman, commented after the meetings: "Overall we have had a very successful year, with much of our work bringing positive results. The fact that we had such a good attendance and participation at our meetings reflects the new mood of optimism in our trade. We must, however, continue to work hard and come up with new ideas to keep fur at the forefront of fashion."
