FUR COUNCIL OF CANADA PRESS RELEASE, MAY 2, 2004

"Fur Trade Leader of the Year"
Andreas Lenhart Receives Maurice Memorial Award

MONTREAL: Andreas Lenhart, chairman of the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), was presented with the Fur Council of Canada's Maurice Memorial Award, at the NAFFEM Fashion Gala Evening, in Montreal, tonight. Since 1957, this award has honoured fur trade leaders and others who make "extraordinary contributions to the welfare of the fur trade".

"Andy gives generously of his time and effort to serve our trade," said NAFFEM president Betty Balaila, who presented the award on the NAFFEM Gala stage before an enthusiastic audience of 600 designers, fur manufacturers and buyers, fashion media and government officials.

"He has always embraced an international vision of the fur trade, understanding that what happens in one market will influence others. He is a strong advocate for international cooperation, with a special interest in promoting a strong public image for our trade," said Balaila.

A principal in Rosenberg & Lenhart, a respected and long-established family business, Andreas Lenhart began representing Germany at the IFTF in 1972, thirty-two years ago. He served as vice-chairman of the IFTF from 1978-1981, and, again, from 1988-1999. He was elected chairman in 1999.

First established in 1949, the IFTF is a federation of fur trade associations from 29 countries around the globe. It is often referred to as the "United Nations of the world's fur industry".

Under Lenhart's leadership, the IFTF has played a stronger role in promoting fashion, while encouraging member associations to work closely to address global business and PR challenges.

Previous recipients of the Maurice Memorial Award include Vogue editor Anna Wintour (2003), former NAFFEM president Terry Vourantonis (2001), Retail Fur Council of Canada founding president Jordan Livingston (1998), and former Fur Council of Canada president Tom Nacos (1997). The Montreal NAFFEM is North America's leading luxury outerwear show; the Fur Council of Canada is a non-profit association representing people working in all sectors of the trade.
