Sweden Leaves Saga

COPENHAGEN: The Swedish Fur Breeders Association, SPR, has decided to leave the Saga cooperative. This means that the Swedish fur breeders follow the idea of leaving Saga, which the Danish Fur Breeders Association did last year.

Throughout the past years SPR has participated in the joint northern marketing cooperation, Saga, without being in possession of its own auction house. Today, Swedish breeders are selling their skins in both Copenhagen and Helsinki. This has contributed to the overall Saga budget.

"Today, SPR is a trade association focusing on industrial policy. Swedish skins are traded both in Copenhagen, Helsinki and the US. As a consequence of this SPR stays neutral in relation to skin sales on part of the members, and we can not enter into a marketing cooperation, which will no longer hold the majority of Swedish skins," says Gösta Larsson, Chairman of SPR.

The Chairman of the Danish Fur Breeders Association, Erik Ugilt Hansen, adopts the decision.

"It is now a fact that Saga alone will be representing the Finnish auction house. In Denmark, we have decided to establish our own marketing unit through Copenhagen Fur Center, and both Sweden and Norway will have to adjust to this new situation. However, I find it natural, that SPR will take the consequences of this decision and stay in a position, where you still have your freedom of action," says Erik Ugilt Hansen.

The Swedish withdrawal from Saga will happen in two years time with binding effect from 1 July 2006.
