FUR INDUSTRY ANNOUNCEMENT, JUNE 1, 2001
Fur Honors Its Own Bill Evans : Man of the Year North American Fur Auctions (NAFA) has presented the Bob Oswald Fur Industry Man of the Year award to Bill Evans. The award was established more than 20 years ago by the late Bob Oswald, a past president of the Ontario Fur Breeders Association and an influential member of the Canada Mink Breeders Association, to recognize people who have made a special contribution to the advancement of the fur industry. Since taking over in 1985 as president of Hudsons Bay New York (predecessor of NAFA) and subsequently as executive director of the American Mink Council (AMC) from 1990 to the present, Evans "has applied his intelligence, imagination, organization skills and business acumen toward the advancement of the interests of the North American mink ranching community," said NAFA in announcing the award. Evanss most notable achievements were the creation of the very successful American Ultra brand in the late 80s while at Hudsons Bay New York and his leadership of the AMC in acquiring an ownership interest in North American Fur Auctions in 1992. Evans has announced that he will retire from his AMC position at the end of this year. Jack Brennan : Hall of Famer JACK BRENNAN, who retired from National Fur Foods seven years ago, earned a well-deserved place in the hearts of fur farmers when the mink breeders in Minnesota elected him to the Fur Farming Industries Hall of Fame. Jim Mueller, president of the Minnesota Mink Breeders Association, noted, "The award is presented each year to a person who has contributed so much to the mink industry and asked so little in return." Brennan was instrumental in establishing the National Ranch Management Seminar, which started in 1975 at the International Mink Show and continues to this day. Always packed with farmers looking to learn more, the National seminar highlights panels of veterinarians, nutritionists, farmers and marketing experts discussing all the latest trends.
