Fur sales good in China, Korea

THE RETAIL FUR SEASON HAS OPENED UP ACROSS NORTHERN CHINA AND IN KOREA, where the weather has been cooperative. According to reports, the early business has been good in Beijing and other major northern cities, heralding another banner season may be in the offing. The Chinese economy, which also was staggered last year, has been recovering much more rapidly than in the West. Korea, too, has been snapping back and cool weather for this time of the year is said to be spurring fur sales.

The big Chinese factories, meanwhile, have not yet moved into high gear and timely deliveries are reported to be still available. That they have not been operating at capacity may be described as serendipitous in view of shortages that have developed in factory labor. That situation is said to be traceable to the one-child-per-family policy that was adopted by the country more than 20 years ago.
