Kopenhagen Fur windup sale seen strong
THE SEASON’S FINAL SALE AT KOPENHAGEN FUR WAS JUST GETTING UNDER WAY as we went to press, but the charged atmosphere pointed to strong competition and firm to higher prices.
Some 500 buyers were working the inspection tables and going through samples representing 4.7 million mink. According to the company, about half the buyers had flown in from Asia, so it will be no surprise when China again dominates the auction as it has at all the sales this year and in previous years. As previously noted, the big factories in China are already running at near-capacity – largely for their domestic accounts – and reporting shortages of certain skins.
Clearances of their purchases by buyers have been excellent at all the major auctions this year, further attesting to manufacturers’ rapid consumption. Kopenhagen, by far the largest, noted that of the 15 million pelts it sold so far this year only one million remain to be cleared.
