Kopenhagen Fur in tie-up to boost Chinese fur sales

KOPENHAGEN FUR AND CHINA’S LARGEST FUR CENTER inked an agreement last week designed to further increase local wholesale and retail development. The formal agreement caps a 15-year relationship between the auction company and the Haining China Leather Market, considered the largest wholesale-retail fur center in the world with over 300 shops. Last year, a total of 150,000 fur coats were sold there, about two-thirds of them made from pelts bought at Kopenhagen, according to the company. The turnover on the day before the signing ceremony was said to be $10.2 million.

The Haining Center plans to replicate itself in selected Chinese cities, the first to be in the northern Liaoning Province. This is to be a 170,000-square-meter market featuring 300 fur and 200 leather shops. In addition, Haining plans to add 200 fur shops to its present center next year and boost its volume to 250,000 coats. Beijing is also on the radar.
