Kopenhagen Fur bids for North American mink
KOPENHAGEN FUR, WHICH HAS BEEN EXPANDING ITS PROMOTIONAL REACH AROUND THE WORLD, including partnerships with Chinese manufacturing centers, now is looking to broaden its offerings. In addition to the Danish and other European mink it already auctions, it now plans to offer North American mink, fox and wild furs.
While all the auction companies have always competed with one another for both suppliers and buyers, the pelts have mostly been sold in their country of origin. Both NAFA and American Legend have been offering some European mink – mainly from the Netherlands and Poland – but few, if any, North American mink have been auctioned overseas. Some American ranchers experimented with that idea about 25 years ago, but it never really got off the ground. Now, both NAFA and Kopenhagen are solidifying their international pelt operations. NAFA recently built a 75,000 square foot pelting and handling facility in Goleniow, Poland, where it will now prepare its European assortments.
