International Fur Fairs Having Good Year
REPORTS FROM MILAN LAST WEEK INDICATED THAT THE MIFUR EVENT was successful from both a seller and buyer standpoint.
Buyers, especially those who attended the Hong Kong Fair, apparently took Mifur’s higher prices in stride, while some of the others expressed the same ‘sticker-shock’ that was reported at the Hong Kong show. But they placed good orders nevertheless.
Russia’s continuing economic recovery was evident in its major presence at this fair, even causing some to remark that Russian appeared to be the official language there. There also were more Koreans, Chinese and Japanese. According to the final tally, total attendance (counted once) was 8,930, an increase of 8% from last year. That consisted of 4,720 foreign visitors, up 12%, and 4,210 Italians, up 4%.
That the American presence rose nearly 26% from last year was attributed to new buyers from other than “the traditional fur segment.”
