International Fur Trade Federation Updates Charter, Tactics
THE 60-YEAR-OLD INTERNATIONAL FUR TRADE FEDERATION has begun a rejuvenation process to bring it more into line with changing times and increase its effectiveness in meeting today’s challenges.
At its annual general meeting in London last week, the organization updated its constitution following approval of a new four-year levy contract with the world’s auction houses. The changes were approved by the required 75% majority of the delegates from its 42 member organizations in 35 countries. The moves reflected broad sentiment that modifications were needed because the global fur industry has changed character over the past decade and because of growing anti-fur pressure in some countries.
Among the important changes are an equalization of trade-sector and geographical representation on the board and the recruiting of a chief executive officer with political, communications and management skills. The board’s composition now will comprise seven elected members from the trade and seven nominated from the auction and producer area.
