Greek fur event called successful
CAPPING OFF THIS YEAR’S SERIES OF INTERNATIONAL FUR FAIRS, the Kastorian Fair, which concluded last week, drew its biggest attendance in its 35-year history. It also was its largest presentation ever, covering 7,750 square meters (about 85,000 square feet) in the town’s newly-expanded exhibition hall.
But unlike earlier years when the thousands in attendance consisted almost entirely of the local fur trade and their families – foreign visitors numbering only in the dozens – this year’s event saw 644 foreign visitors. They were mainly from Russia, but also from Turkey and elsewhere in Europe. There also were 512 Greek commercial visitors, an overall total of 7,395.
Business at the Greek fair increased about 30% over last year, according to the Kastorian Fur Association. At a total of 135, there were 10 more exhibitors than last year. Preponderantly Greek, the others were from Italy, Russia, the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Finland, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
