Fur Stores Say November was “OK”
NOVEMBER TURNED OUT TO BE A ‘DECENT’ MONTH FOR U.S. FURRIERS, some just about meeting last year’s figures and a few going slightly ahead. Inconsistent weather conditions were blamed for the irregular pattern, much the same as what they recalled describing last year’s month. As far as the ailing economy and its impact on their clients’ attitudes are concerned, they see no greater problems than a year ago and possibly a bit less. This year’s substantially higher prices may be responsible for an increasing tendency for customers to bargain – and for some to bargain harder than before.
But they also see a larger drift toward smaller, less expensive items. While sheared mink in jackets and short coats continue to be the biggest sellers for most, they say clients are showing increased interest in section-fur items, mostly mink. Fur hats, neck pieces and other accessories are also moving.
