Early Cold Sparks China Fur Sales
THE EARLY ARRIVAL OF COLD TEMPERATURES IN NORTHERN CHINA sparked good retail traffic and, serendipitously, coincided with the grand openings of two huge fur/leather shopping malls.
The new centers are a reflection of the projected further growth of China’s domestic fur business, already the world’s largest. And, with its 1.3 billion population becoming more able to afford luxuries, they plan to be in a position to meet that demand.
One is the Xinji Leather Market occupying nearly 4 million square feet in Hebei Province, just south of Beijing.
The other, covering almost 2 million square feet, is the Haining China Leather Market in Tong Er Pu, one of the major fur manufacturing areas. That center consists of 700 shops, of which 300 are fur and the rest leather.
Both openings were the culmination of several cooperative arrangements signed last year with Kopenhagen Fur.
