SKIN MARKET SUPPLIES REMAIN TIGHT FOR ANYTHING THAT IS IN DEMAND. Clearances at the international auction companies have been excellent and whatever dealers may have bought for their own accounts has been depleted, at least insofar as the wanted items are concerned. Fresh mink has become available and, in advance of the new season’s opening auctions next month in Scandinavia, some farmers are willing to sell part of their crop privately.
According to brokers who are close to this scene, the asking prices have been ranging from 10% to 15% above the most recent auction levels. Where there is immediate need by manufacturers to fill orders on hand, such deals are being struck. But the belief is that when the first auctions open Dec. 15 in Copenhagen and the following week in Helsinki, the immediate-need factor will still be present and pushing prices up.
