An Open Letter of Thanks from Earl Drewelow & Sons Fur Farm
NEW HAMPTON, IOWA: On September 7, vandals attacked our farm, tearing down fences, opening mink pens and releasing 14,000 of our animals. The last few days have been a nightmare for our family and the farm. If it weren’t for the help of our good neighbors and friends, losses would have been much, much greater. We would especially like to thank all those who came to our aid.
After this attack on our farm, a terrorist group called the Animal “Liberation” Front (ALF), admitted responsibility for the crime. As farmers we wonder if the ALF considered the repercussion of their terrorist actions. Less than 3 percent of the Earth can support crops to feed and clothe us and so we humans remain dependent on animals for food and clothing. And those animals are dependent on us also. Animals (fish, beef, dairy) supply us with almost all the protein we require. In addition to harvests of wild animals, such as fish, birds and mammals, farmers specialize in raising domesticated animals to feed and clothe the 6 billion people on the planet. 1.6% of the US population are resource providers involved in farming, forestry, fishing, and related industries. The Earl Drewelow & Sons Fur Farm is proud to have been involved for over 60 years in animal agriculture.
